Good Morning All,
First of all sorry for the delay in publishing my result ... as i were upset :( and busy in Eid perpetration ... my result as follows...
Listening: 6.5
Reading: 5.0
Writing: 5.5
Speaking: 7.0
Overall: 6.0
I know that my problem is always with reading but in the writing I didn’t expect to have a process diagram which effect my writing mark… speaking was the best part not because of my marks, but I really enjoyed it as the examiner was so nice I didn’t feel like I’m in the exam… anyway this is what I have done so far… and waiting for your advice Tony…
Kind regards,

Hello Hamda
Thank you for taking the trouble to post your IELTS scores - it takes courage to take such a step.
It was only the Writing that you 'under-performed'. You are capable of a 7.0 in IELTS writing (when all the factors go your way)! However, remember Vladimir's golden advice:
"Expect the unexpected".
Your overall score matched the band 6.0 that I had predicted, based on your final test and course work. Surely that is enough for your master's degree program? Do you need to re-sit the IELTS exam? Please let me know.
Eid Mubarek and best wishes
Tony
Hi Tony,
Regarding the master degree i have to get at least 5 in listening and speaking and 6 in reading and writing ... so i have to re-sit the IELTS Test...
regards,
Hamda
Drats!
Sorry about that, Hamda!
Can't you 'pull any strings' to get the university to accept your overall score?
Ah well, now you know that Reading must be improved and the Writing needs tightening up. Unless you totally crashed in task 1, then why didn't a strong task 2 essay pull up your score?
If you want to submit some sample writing I'll give you feedback.
READING: build up your vocabulary and practise reading short articles at speed.
Have a break and come back refreshed - I could write you a reference to help you get accepted onto the master's programme - would that do any good?
Good luck!
Tony
Hi Tony,
I really appreciate your help… If there is difference in half a band they will accept it .. but not more than that … and no problem I’ll prepare myself to take the test again and inshallah I’ll try to get high marks …
Come on Tony don’t ask me about task 2 as I were in time pressure and I don’t know what I’ve wrote…
About the reference I don’t know let me ask …
One more thing .. as you know I have a big gap in reading … how can I improve it other than vocabulary and practice on short paragraph?
Regards,
Hamda
Hello Hamda!
Happy New Year!
Here are some 'home truths' (true things you might not like to hear!):
"One more thing .. as you know I have a big gap in reading … how can I improve it other than vocabulary and practice on short paragraph?"
- there is no simple solution
- like a lot of students you are NOT in the habit of reading
- time is very short before your re-sit
- this is the part of the IELTS exam where you have total control and the answers are in front of you!
- therefore, as there is no time to seriously improve your reading skill by exploring the riches of the English language, I suggest that you simply do multiple, timed IELTS Reading papers
- buy Cambridge Test Books 2, 4, 5 and 6 (the PURPLE books)
- concentrate on understanding the questions and instructions
- do it section by section in 15-20 minute bursts, THEN do a separate timed 60 minute IELTS Reading from another book
- have you done ANY Reading practice at the British Council Learning Zone? Hmm, I thought not.
It's in your hands and your mind!
Good luck next time!
Tony
Good Morning all,
First of all, I’d like to thank you Tony for your advice… i'll started to following them...
Second, finally the university accepted to join the university to start my master program as they’ve given me a second chance to take the English test and get higher marks … I know it is unbelievable but there were a mistake from their side and I’ve took the advantage of that ^_^
Inshallah from tomorrow I’ll start the studying marathon, wish me a good luck …
Have a nice raining & sunny day…
I want to follow your blog to get knowledge and experience of Ielts exam. Tks for your share.
